Authoring in Arbortext Editor (2 days)

Provides comprehensive training in Arbortext Editor for authoring structured content. A best practice approach is emphasised to ensure the most efficient and effective use of Arbortext Editor.

The course teaches the essential concepts, knowledge and skills required to produce valid SGML and XML content to a high, consistent standard. It is practical and activity-based; through hands-on exercises you become confident using Arbortext Editor's invaluable authoring features. Sessions cover:

Using the editing environment.

Elements.

Attributes and entities.

Tables.

Editing tools.

Arbortext Editor and XML/DITA.

An understanding of authoring with SGML or XML is desirable but not essential.

Introduction to Arbortext FOSI stylesheet development (2 days)

Teaches the basic concepts you need to know to create and maintain FOSI stylesheets for authoring in Arbortext. Through hands-on exercises you will learn how to develop templates that ensure consistent, high quality content. Sessions cover:

Formatting.

Generating and suppressing.

Markup based formatting.

Attribute based formatting.

Test documents.

Multiple stylesheets.

Introduction to ACL.

Delegates should have a good understanding of general XML concepts, and DTDs or schemas. A working knowledge of Arbortext Architect and some programming experience is beneficial but not essential.

Advanced Arbortext FOSI stylesheet development (2 days)

Teaches advanced techniques for efficient FOSI stylesheet development for PDF or print output. Through hands-on exercises delegates learn techniques for specifying format for full composition. Sessions cover:

Paged output.

Page layout design and coding.

Style categories.

Headers, footers and numbering.

Building tables of contents.

Delegates should be familiar with the fundamentals of Arbortext FOSI stylesheet development, i.e. have attended Introduction to Arbortext FOSI stylesheet development training or have equivalent knowledge.

General course information

Method of delivery

Arbortext training combines lecture, demonstration and hands-on practice. Delegates have ample opportunity to discuss their specific requirements with the trainer.

Courseware and certificate

Delegates attending Arbortext training receive courseware and exercise materials to refer to throughout the course, and to use as a refresher following the course. Delegates receive a certificate confirming they have attended and successfully completed Arbortext training.

Expert trainers

Our trainers are experts in the authoring of structured content using Arbortext. They are highly experienced consultants who use Arbortext in the field, and so are in an ideal position to teach you real best practice.

After course support

Following Arbortext training, delegates are entitled to 30 days' email support from their Arbortext trainer to help with any post-course issues.
