Run consecutively in a single week, these three courses comprise our Technical author training programme, which is accredited by the ISTC.

Introduction to technical authoring (1 day)

Provides a grounding in technical authoring principles and writing styles appropriate to user documentation. Sessions cover:

This course is the first module of our technical authoring training programme. It is also ideal as a stand-alone course for anyone involved in technical authoring, including:

Career technical authors who haven't received any formal training.

People who are considering technical authoring as a profession.

Those who are not career technical authors but have been asked to carry out technical authoring work as part of their role.

Intermediate technical authoring (2 days)

Builds on the concepts and skills taught in the introductory technical authoring course, teaching further techniques for producing effective content. Sessions cover:

General course information

Method of delivery

Technical author training combines lecture, demonstration and hands-on practice. Delegates have ample opportunity to discuss their specific requirements with the trainer.

What will I receive?

Delegates attending all technical author training receive:

A comprehensive training guide to refer to throughout the course, and use as a refresher afterwards.

A flash drive containing course materials for reference back in the workplace.

An e-certificate confirming they have attended and successfully completed an ISTC-accredited course.

Delegates attending Intermediate technical authoring and Advanced technical authoring training courses also receive:

Checklists and job aids to focus each stage of the writing process.

Report and user manual templates that incorporate best practice design and structure as taught in the courses.

Expert trainers

Technical author training is provided by highly experienced instructors, all of whom have 15+ years' experience in technical authoring.

After course support

Following technical author training, delegates are entitled to 30 days' email support from their trainer to help with any post-course issues.

Cancellations

If a company or delegate cancels a technical author training course booking giving less than 10 working days' notice, a cancellation fee is payable. View cancellation terms.
